Milk Synthesis Pathway

The constituents of breast milk are either absorbed from the blood from nutrients in a mother's diet or synthesized in special milk-producing cells called lactocytes. The components of breast milk are brought together in the alveoli via different routes. Some components pass through or between the milk-producing cells, while others are assembled within lactocytes.
