We have all been to the doctor and had tests done. Usually doctors just say everything looks good. Now, we are being given more information in terms of what the test results actually were, but unless you are a doctor the numbers and words probably don't mean a whole lot to you.
The Visual MD is trying to change that by giving you a visual understanding of how healthy you really are. The video below gives a much better description than I ever could, but I will share some of the things that stuck with me.

I added this one because I was mesmerized by it. The film of the developing fetus starts at around 2 minutes. It's educational and transforming - I recommend listening to the entire piece. It's a reminder of just how incredible you are.

When my niece was about 7 years old, we were in a taxi on our way to the theater when she turned to me and said, "Isn't it strange that we don't know what is going on inside our bodies?"
Strange no longer, Gwen, thanks to an amazing new website developed by the internationally renowned Alexander Tsiaras and Deepak Chopra, MD, FACP. Based on the belief that visualization of health information coupled with good storytelling can change behavior, The Visual MD is organized around 9 Visual Rules of Wellness...

The most recent video to be released from TEDMED 2011 is a presentation from Alexander Tsiaris on his revolutionary health information website, The Visual MD.
Tsiaris is a world-renowned technologist, journalist, photographer, painter, author, and entrepreneur who made his way into the world of medical imaging by photographing a story about ophthalmic techniques.
From there, he taught himself the physics and mathematics required to create his own lenses used for microscopic and endoscopic imaging. Tsiaris later learned how to write his own computer programs, and, using his knowledge of physics and light, created visualization software for human anatomy. This led him to start his own medical imaging company, Anatomical Travelogue.

The last time you went to the doctor's office, you probably got some numbers representing your pulse, blood pressure, maybe even cholesterol and weight. But what does that really mean for you?
Alexander Tsiaras, founder of theVisualMD, wants you to be able to see the processes that are making you as healthy or as sick as you are and act on that knowledge. TheVisualMD has detailed, colorful libraries that visualize aspects of sickness and health based on real medical data, and it is now presenting a new tool for breaking bad habits in 2012.

At times it seems like there are a billion resources providing information about Alzheimer's Disease. As I read and sort through information, it's often challenging to hone down that wealth of data into a few dynamic, informative sources that are really "go to" resources.
I want to highly recommend the presentations available at The Visual MD. This site has a thirteen chapter series that presents an oustanding amount of information in understandable, manageable segments. The accompanying video presentations are truly highlights. The informative series begins with a chapter entitled, "Diagnosing Alzheimer's Disease" and covers a wide variety of subjects including information regarding signs and symptoms, disease progression, testing, treatment, and what can be done about the disease.

Mathematician Alexander Tsiaras's awesome TedEx presentation on the medical visualization of human development from conception to birth.
I was blown away by this video when I first saw it. I know we've all seen images like this before in Biology class, but the beautiful way Alexander Tsiaras puts this together from the point of view of a mathematician is really something. As you might expect, the video prompted a series of heated comments on both sides of the abortion debate. And I can certainly see where this type of video might lead to that. But as the mom of two daughters, and a and scientist by training, I was simply awe struck by the beauty and precision of human development. Let me know what you think!

I think these two cool videos deserve more coverage (although I don't think my blog will boost their number of views that much), but still, I can't help not to share it. Some objects are not easily captured, and most of the time remain foreign to the eyes of the normal Joe, but these two experts did some serious undertaking to visualize and capture and made it unknowable to us the mystery lies in the deepest & darkest part of the ocean and also the miracle of a cell's conception.

Reported by ABC news' Gitika Ahuja, from TEDMED2011, a conference of ideas and innovation.
Think of it as Pixar meets the National Institutes of Health: A new health initiative designed by internationally renowned art director and technologist Alexander Tsiaras and wellness Guru Dr. Deepak Chopra that aims to visually decipher through images and storytelling all the things going on inside the human body, or as Tsiaras puts it, the marvel of how we are made.
The website, brought to you by the folks from TheVisualMD.com launches in January, with a new section being every week for 15 weeks. Tsiaras gave us a sneak peak here at TEDMED 2011, and I must admit the 3-D images and videos are beautiful, seemingly precise and detailed as they try to give "soul to data." Tsiaras says the visualizations are as accurate as science understands the human body today.
