CHAPTER 29

Week 29

Your baby has been storing fat subcutaneously (under the skin) and now has a much less wrinkled appearance than he did just a few weeks ago. In fact, during the last 11 weeks of pregnancy babies typically double in overall weight! The fat provides a source of stored energy and also helps maintain body temperature after birth. Before the baby is born the placenta performs this task, maintaining fetal temperature at 100.7-102.5°F, a few degrees higher than your own.

Baby's bones are fully developed but still soft and pliable. He's taking deeper and longer "breaths"--preparation for that all-important first real breath outside of you. His eyes can produce tears. And your little acrobat can do somersaults now, flipping head over heel!
